Crazy Wisdom Book Store’s quarterly publication has a fabulous article about myself and 3 other women who do creative work around body issues, self esteem and size acceptance.  Written by Syndy Sweeney, I am honored to have been invited to be part of this wonderful group of women and of course to have my story and my work highlighted in such a beautiful way for the community to learn about.

I often feel like I’m working in a vacuum, people you think know what you have been doing don’t really have a clue…you send out press releases…put yourself out there publicly in exhibitions and in social networking websites and when your message does not follow the majority’s beliefs, it’s like yelling in a sound proof booth.  I am always sure that the reason I don’t get my work in certain exhibitions is because the curators don’t believe what I am saying, they don’t want to!  My message is not universally accepted and even though the Art World loves to step on people’s toes and piss the viewers off, there are some things that seem to be too hard to swallow even for them.  Nobody wants to accept that diets do the total opposite to what they were intended to do, and that all that money that we have put into it, all the scientific research, everything we have been told is wrong and our quest for body beautiful is totally pointless and a waste of time and money.

It is so wonderful to have such an outstanding platform to help me spread the message that most people just want to ignore.  It’s okay to be fat, happy, productive and successful and chasing ridiculous beauty standards and erroneous medical information all these years has been a massive waste of our resources, personal, environmental, social, spiritual, well in every way shape or form.

We all get old, whether we are thin or fat, we all die eventually no matter what size we are, and thin people can be as depressed and weight obsessed as fat people, have diabetes and heart conditions, clogged arteries, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and cancer.     We need to start living our lives now in the bodies we have and stop waiting for the perfect number on a scale or size on a rack.  Please check out my Press Page to read my story on this blog.  If it rings true to you and you are still on that crazy diet merry-go-round…STOP, send my your diet books and start to listen to your own body again.  It has the answers, Oprah and Dr. OZ do not.

Happy New Year to all of you…and Happy Birthday to me!!!  52 and I’m not going to make a commitment to be a certain weight by the time I’m 53, 54 or 55, I’m going to enjoy my life now, at this weight, in this body, and with this level of energy.

Starting to put up my Kickstarter Campaign

I have been talking about this for ever, but finally I think I have enough stuff to create some pretty cool rewards for donors.  Between the Ex-Libris Stickers for the Diet Books and the Diet Book Cover Venus’, my film and some other great ideas and bundles, I could actually get enough money together to place an ad in some really offensive magazine to get people to send me more unwanted diet books.  It’s just always really hard to keep up with this technology…blogging and facebooking and tweeting it’s a life on it’s own and I hate that every time I come back to enter something I feel the need to apologize for not keeping up.  It’s not like I have a great number of followers who are waiting with baited breath on every musing.  But if I don’t write I won’t attract attention and if I don’t attract attention I won’t get followers….ahhhh I am thinking if only there were 3 of me, but then I realize there would be 3 x time the problems as well.  Anyways today on facebook I was led by another fat activist to this new HAES site out of the U.K by Angela Meadows called Never Diet Again U.K. http://www.neverdietagain.co.uk. We seem to have some very similar ideas and so I posted her link below.  Of course I don’t care how the diet industry gets taken down…the more the faster I would say, so whether you are ripping your diets up on video and sending the videos to her…or sending me your diet books to build my giant maze? it’s really all the same.  BUT I DO NEED MORE BOOKS!!! My proposal to install on passage way in Whitdel Arts Detroit  has been approved and my engineers think that 4,000 books is not enough.  So the sooner I get more books the better I will feel.  Whether you see this post or see my Kickstarter Page when it’s up….please, please, please send me your diet books.  This show is a great opportunity for me to do a dry run, get some pictures for the ultimate proposal and of course the very important press that will take my message further still.

I so love this woman…thanks to my friend Jean Leverich for posting this on my facebook page…because even though this woman is in Michigan I don’t think I have ever come across her Vlog. It’s so nice to see a positive, happy, fat activist who isn’t pissing on you when she tells you where you can shove your fat loathing and bigoted ideologies.

SPAM-A-LOT

Okay what the heck is up with Yahoo Mail?  Two days ago I notice that I’m getting a ton of rejected emails…when I actually had not been on my email at all that morning.  Well it turns out I had taken a really fast plane trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina opened a business selling diet products and was sending ads to everyone on my email list from abroad.  Yes when one has over 4000 email addresses in their address book many are bound to be some dead ones.  ( note to self…never steal your friends email lists…even if your intentions are good…you don’t know who the people are and so you’ll never really use them and then they just end up dying a useless death at the hands of a spammer.)

So, Back to “What is up with Yahoo?” At some point in the morning Yahoo sends me a warning that is indicated by a small bell icon on the upper right hand of my Yahoo Home Page screen.  When you click on it, it shows how many times you have logged in to your account and from where.  They thought something was up when I was sending mail from Eastern Europe…and yes they were correct!!…I was just at my studio feeding the cats and changing litter, and sleeping because god knows I can’t sleep when I’m near my computer.

Well what is wrong with this picture? Yahoo knows there is some suspicious activity on my account,  they are sounding the bell on my computer, but they still let this Ass Hat send over 4000 emails using my account in one morning.  As President Elect of a national non-profit women’s organization don’t you think I would love the ability to send that many emails at once??  BUT NO!!  My account gets put on Freeze when I try to send 100 emails at once to people I know!…and that was not after this SPAM business either, it’s has been every blasted time.

Okay I get it…you get what you pay for! and what did I pay for Yahoo?  ZILCH…but seriously?  from what I can tell they are worth ZILCH…so yes Brenda has left Yahoo…and I strongly suggest you all do the same.

I won’t stop until their stock drops!!! and everyone has left their website….I’m hungry I’m sorry…I’ve trying to work on this mess and clean up my emails for two day solid. I do have a life you know!!!

When I heard that Michelle Obama was going on The Biggest Loser to congratulate the participants on being role models I knew that I had to do something.  So I e-mailed my friend Darryl Roberts, filmmaker of America the Beautiful 2: The Thin Commandments. We wrote a well-researched article pointing out the problems with Mrs. Obama endorsing the contestants as role models.  That article is below.

It wasn’t meant for this blog, but it’s now been turned down by three major media outlets.  Not because they disagreed with us, in fact all three said that they agreed with the article.  It was denied in all three cases because the White House wouldn’t like it, they were worried about damaging their working relationship with the White House, and because it it made the First Lady “look bad and out of touch.”  That confused me since I think the problem is that…

Chomping at the Bit!

I am very excited as I got into a performance art exhibition entitled Ingest, Digest, Protest curated by some curatorial students from Grand Valley State in Allendale, MI.  The show will screen on Sunday, April 22nd in Chicago at the Mess Hall.  Of course I was the only person who entered an actual performance so they changed the format and asked for a video piece.  So like a crazy woman I got a crew together…with the help of Jeremy Hanson and his partner in crime Brett Scott and we have made a video entitled “Results May Vary”  

I can’t wait to post it which I will hold off doing until after the show in Chicago…but OMG it is the scariest thing you have ever seen….if you ever wanted to know what it feels like to diet?  This would be the video to watch.  I can’t believe what a frightening piece it is.  I frighten myself even.  I know I wasn’t acting…I just did what I set out to do….now to figure out how to distance myself from the madness.  I mean I hope that is not me.

I like to think that that is not me any more at least….it was definitely me a long time ago.
